Grow Your Own.

Grow sprouts, for fun and health.

2 Tablespoons sprout seeds
1 large wide-mouth jar
1 fat strong rubber band
1 rectangular Rubbermaid container
1 6x6” nylon screen (or foot of pantyhose)
Tap Water

Place seeds in jar. Cover with water, place screen over opening and secure with rubber band. Soak upright overnight.

Next morning, dump out water, cover again with just enough water to cover, and rapidly swish around well for one minute to rinse seeds.
Pour that water out, and tilt upside-down at an angle in Rubbermaid container, so seeds can both continue to drain, and breathe.
Leave on countertop out of sun.

Repeat rinse/drain routine, morning and night, for 1 week until sprouts have grown to fill inside of jar.

When ready to harvest, gently pull sprouts from jar and place into large bowl.
Cover sprouts with water and gently swish back and forth with your hand until hulls rise to surface. Pour off hulls and repeat a few times until few hulls remain.
Drain well.

Place paper towel on countertop and sprouts on paper towel.
Drain well.
Move sprouts to a plate and let them rest a few minutes.
Pour off water from plate.
Sprouts should be fresh and squeaky.
Place in two or three small Ziploc refrigerator containers.
Enjoy within one week.
Sprouts go great with everything and even the finest restaurants use just the tips for garnish.

Be healthy! I love you!

Weird Recipe #229.

Okay folks, don't fire me for being bizarre, but this recipe (original!) is better than it sounds.
Strawberry Gumbo. We love okra, it's tasty, green and healthy for you, but as everyone knows, the poor okra bean just has, well, issues. Strawberries to the rescue and, of course, whenever you add a pat of butter to anything, it just tastes better. Slice a half pound of okra and slice a basket of straberries. Stir-fry the okra for about six minutes on medium heat, add a pat of butter. Stir in the strawberries and heat another two minutes or so. The flavors blend well, and the red and green look really pretty. And, we doubt it's ever been done before. Go on, be adventurous!

I Have A Gig!

This Sunday, July 8, 10am-12pm at Espresso Gardens, 4720 Meridian Avenue, in San Jose. (scroll down, check out the calendar) I have not sung in public in quite a while and I am excited about getting back into it! Espresso Gardens is a wonderul place, great coffee and people and just getting out there again is going to be great. I found a stack of music I thought I'd lost. Well, I'd better go get practicing! Wish me luck. Makes me feel better after having my cards stolen at the gas station last week. Yes, music truly is therapy, especially to the player of it. I don't know that life would exactly be a mistake, as Nietzsche put it, but it would be a whole helluva lot more boring.
